About the Item

A rare large 10" wide Art Deco cobalt mercury glass round ball vase with an Acid Etched signature "Czechoslovakia". The round ball shape is a distinctive feature and is a call back to the designs made famous by the Bauhaus in Germany, Czech glassmakers were known for producing high-quality decorative glass, including mercury glass, which was prized for its reflective, metallic sheen. Mercury glass, or "silvered glass," was developed in the mid-19th century, with Czech artisans becoming key producers in the 20th century. The technique involved coating glass vessels with a reflective metal, usually silver, creating a mirror-like surface. By the 1930s, Czechoslovakia was renowned for its glass production, with brands like Moser and Riedel leading the way. The Czechoslovakia mark indicates the piece's high-quality craftsmanship from this era. These vases were used for both decorative and functional purposes. Signed: Czechoslovakia Measurements: 9 1/2" H x 10" Diameter, depression is 5" W across the middle. Czechoslovakia, 1930
