About the Item

Large vase of Richard BURGSTHAL, French master glassmaker, of his true name Rene BILLA. From 1912, after meeting Gustave Fayet, he settled in Bièvres and developed his own furnace, using the works of the monk Théophile, dating from 1125. He discovered the blue colours of Chartres in 1913, and the ruby reds in July of the same year. Decorations at Fontfroide Abbey in Narbonne, graphic works in Béziers, Narbonne, Paris (Orsay). The vases signed Richard are produced by the Loetz factory in Bohemia, and date from 1925-26.
