About Manfred Frey Some information on Mr. Frey from the Collector's Weekly website: "Some Kaiser items carry the artist signature M. Frey which belonged to the designer and artist Manfred Frey." A Distinguished Career Although there is little biographical information on Mr. Frey, he had a long and illustrious career as a designer, artist, Judoka, and ballroom dancer. Born in Bamberg, Germany on October 22, 1940, he began an apprenticeship as a mold maker at Alboth & Kaiser in 1955. Frey trained in judo with the same intensity he later brought to design. International Experience and Recognition At 18, he moved to Switzerland, leading the model department at Rheintal-Porzellanmanufaktur. Returning to Germany in 1963, he enhanced his design knowledge at the Johann Friedrich Böttger Institute. By 1966, after completing his studies, he returned to Kaiser where his designs gained recognition. In 1970, Frey was appointed Chief Designer. Continued Influence and Legacy Mr. Frey retired in 2008 but continued freelance design work for Kaiser until 2015. He established a private atelier, creating sophisticated works of art in bisque porcelain.
