About the Item

An amazing handblown vintage handblown bright red sommerso signed glass vase, made and signed by Ernst Gordon for Åfors, Sweden. The vase has a fantastic teardrop shape, yet it is the colour that makes this vase so special, bright red with surrounding clear crystal. It is signed by Ernst Gordon who was one of Sweden’s most talented glass blower and designer and his work always holds a very high standard. It is 21cm (8.26") high and around 10cm (3.93") wide. There some few very small minor abrasions, yet overall of a great condition, a fantastic little piece of glass art, the price includes free shipping. Boda Åfors Glasbruk Founded in 1742 had an early production focusing on consisted of window glass, chandeliers and drinking glasses. From the 1840s, the factory was at the forefront of new trends and technical developments, producing pressed glass, and in the 1880s setting up a new glass-cutting workshop. The factory is situated in what is known as the Chrystal Kingdom region in Sweden. In 1903, the company merged with the Reijmyre glasbruk (glassworks) but both retained their own names and Kosta went on to maintain its reputation as one of the leading Swedish manufacturers with a range of fine art glass and tableware by distinguished designers such as Vicke Lindstrand, artistic director from 1950-1973. With Vicke Lindstrand in charge of the modern art glass production, the company became one of the leading companies when it comes to modern art glass and interior design object in the 1960s and 70s following Vicke Lindström’s legacy in connection to Scandinavian design, often focusing on vases as well as other modern glass objects. Lots of their goods is today still seen as modern classics. The company employed some of the leading designers of its time such as Mona Morales, Göran Wärff and Bertil Wallien.

A fantastic and rather large handblown vintage art sommerso glass vase, design and signed by the talented Gunnar Nylund and Asta Strömberg from the prestigious Strömbergshyttan Sweden. This vase has a fantastic color, a deep smokey grey or nearly black color, covered with clear crystal. The design is simple yet very much of 60s and inspiration from the space age, it is sleek, elegant and sophisticated, especially with the fantastic contrasting color. -It is 27cm (10.62") high and 8.5cm wide (3.34") and 5cm deep (1.96") at the base, in a teardrop shape and in a good condition, yet some minor abrasion underneath, and micro soot flakes yet overall a fantastic vase. The price includes free shipping. Strömberghyttan; a company which early on grasped the importance of good design when it comes to art and design glass, rendering them a leading position in mid-century modern Scandinavian design. Interior design and decoration which stood out with a distinct quality, very much due to the famous designers Gerda and Asta Strömberg.
