French Midcentury Sculpted Stoneware Vase, Neutral Brown

About the Item

Large irregular shaped stoneware sculpted vase stamped A.R., from Vallauris, Circa 1970s. Truly stunning piece that will look great in any room. Look closely, there are gold and silver tones which are seen mostly in Japanese sculptures. There the technique is called "sho (hovering"). The eye catching brown or neutral color would enhance any midcentury, modern or contemporary setting. Vallauris ceramics invariably have a distinctive look, whether it be the the iridescent Art Nouveau wares from Massier, the vivacious, colorful, highly textured glazes or the expressive mid-century, modernist hand painted pieces that typically characterize the region’s pottery. The adventurous glazes of Vallauris were applied to both conventional forms and the more radical sculptural designs. This piece is very heavy and is best on a table instead of shelving. No imperfections, original and unaltered.
