Napoleone Martinuzzi Italian Vase for Cenedese
About the Item
Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892-1977) was a sculptor, designer and entrepreneur in the glassmaking industry. He trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and from 1922-1931 he directed the Glassmaking Museum in Murano. This green lava glass vase is decorated with a robed female figure with a pitcher on a pedestal. The ground and polished rim are in excellent condition. Overall the vase is 15 1/4" tall x 9 1/2" wide x 5 1/4" deep and the female figure stands 8 1/2" tall. This vase is very heavy and cannot be boxed.

Napoleone Martinuzzi
Napoleone Martinuzzi was born on May 31, 1892, in Murano.
Active as a sculptor in Rome at the beginning of the 20th century, Martinuzzi came back to Murano in 1925 to found the Vetri Soffiati Muranese Venini and Company, along with Paolo Venini and Francesco Zecchin. At this company, Martinuzzi was the art director.
In 1932, Martinuzzi left the firm and founded the Zecchin Martinuzzi Vetri Artistici e Mosaici along with Francesco Zecchin. Between 1951 and 1952, he became the designer for Arte Vetro di Alberto Seguso. He is still considered one of the finest Murano glass designers of all time. Martinuzzi died on May 15, 1977, in Venice.
