Nils Landberg Glass Vase "Dusk" for Orrefors, Sweden

About the Item

A beautiful handblown vintage sommerso glass vase made and signed by talented Nils Landberg for Orrefors glassworks, Sweden in the 1960s. This vase has a dark smokey grey color which has been covered with clear crystal, and it is a part of the famous mid-century modernist artwork that was produced by the designer. The shape is like a solid rectangular, which really makes it very special. Landberg has often been described as a master of crystal, which is very obvious in this vase. -It is 22.5cm (8.85") high and 11cm (4.33") wide and around 5cm (1.96") deep. NOTE that this vase is rather heavy with just under 2000g (4.40 lbs) it is in a very good condition, the price includes free shipping. Orrefors (1898-2012) was one of Sweden’s, and partly the whole world’s, leading glasbruk (glasswork) company. In 1913, Orrefors started to produce drinking glasses, vases and other house-ware items. The owner, Ekman, hired Heinrich Wollman, who originated from Bohemia, which had a long tradition in glass-making. They started to make the first attempts at modern art glass, often used as interior design objects, such as a wide range of modern crystal vases. Their designs use characteristic clean lines of brilliant crystal that suggests a frozen liquid. Their modern take on glass art and interior design objects was greatly admired when it was displayed to a wide audience at the Paris Exhibition of 1925. Some of the most well-known modern Scandinavian designers and artist were Olle Alberius, Göran Wärff, Vicke Lindstrand, Rolf Nilsson, Nils Landberg and Ingeborg Lundin during the 1960s and 70s.
