About the Item

113 is the result of a strand of new discoveries that are part of OAO’s ongoing research into the reciprocal relationship between glass and metals. Bronze alloy is poured into a hot blown glass vessel. The liquified metal, almost water-like in viscosity, washes across the glass surface of the inside of the vessel, assuming its form. When in contact with glass on the outward face, the bronze retains its brightness due to low exposure to oxygen. This brightness is contrasted by the inward metal face, which due to an abundance of oxygen cools to a raw, matte black finish. Glass and metal cool at different rates, contracting, and the associated tensions separate them from each other, with the glass cracking away to reveal a cast metal echo of the itself. This newly developed process yields forms, metal combinations and surfaces that would be impossible to achieve with any other methodology. 113 by Omer Arbel is the first exhibition held at the new space that Carwan Gallery has opened in Athens in September 2020.

Contemporary Japanese Cloissoné Copper Vessel Shippo Vase by Yochiya Studio
By Yochiya
Located in Amsterdam, NL
Yochiya explore the untapped possibilities of cloisonné by combining improvisational and serendipitous modern techniques such as welding and hydraulic pressure, rather than relying solely on traditional techniques. Sculpting as if drawing, and embracing the accidental moments that arise, led to many fascinating discoveries. Cloisonné ware is a craft in which a glassy glaze is applied to silver or copper and enclosed into the small sections separated by a wire. Japanese cloisonné enamel reached a technical peak, producing items more advanced than any that had existed before. In Japan cloisonné enamels are known as shippō-yaki Using this craft Yochiya present the Shippo vases...
