One-of-a-Kind Contemporary Sculptural Vase in Black & Tan Speckled Ceramic

About the Item

This unique sculptural vase is comprised of two hand-built ceramic components that fit together to create one visually arresting work of art that sustains the viewer's interest. Diminutive in scale, and dynamic from all angles, the piece is sculpted of black and tan speckled clay and finished in a clear glaze which provides a subtle sheen. The unconventional design is certain to inspire and ignite conversation in any setting, whether its adding interest to a cluster of objects on a tablescape, nestled into a nook amid bookshelves in a library, or simply placed with a single stem atop a mantlepiece. Artist Information: Somsack Sikhounmuong is a designer and ceramicist based in Long Island City. Originally from Toronto, he moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design where he received his BFA.  Whether through shape, technique or a sense of humour, each one of his pieces is an attempt to reimagine and recast the everyday object in a new light.

  • Contemporary Sculptural Vase in Unglazed Porcelain by Jenny Min
    Located in New York, NY
This delicate, diminutive hand-crafted porcelain vessel, entitled 'Grotto Vase,' makes a subtly beautiful addition to any room in the home. The chalky finish calls to mind the raw, tactile essence of a Giacometti plaster sculpture, while the serene minimalism of the form evokes a Morandi still-life painting. Artist Information: Jenny Min is a ceramicist based in New York City. She utilizes a perspective of discovery and symphonic tension that mirrors her experiences. In 2009, Jenny graduated from New York University and studied at Steinhardt School of Art for ceramics. After graduation, Jenny moved to Florence, Italy to learn under the tutelage of master potter Romano Pampaloni. For the better part of a decade, she would develop a precision-based throwing technique that appreciates the pressure of perfection and the discovery in surprise — a philosophy that values the contextual balance of imposing upon and reacting to the medium. Jenny returned to New York City in 2016 and in that same year started her practice working out of Greenwich House Studio. She would go on to do residencies back in Italy at Capoldio in 2018 and at Rights of Passage, a Barnard College...

  • Large-Scale Ceramic Sculptural Cup & Saucer Vase Glazed in Glossy Blue & Teal
    By Jaye Kim
    Located in New York, NY
Large-scale Hand-Built Glazed Ceramic Sculpture, entitled 'Cup & Saucer' by Brooklyn-based artist and ceramicist Jaye Kim. This generously oversized cup and saucer is scaled up for maximum impact, and glazed in a glossy mix of exuberant teal and vibrant cobalt blue that emphasizes the drippy textured surface with a subtle sheen that catches the light. This work is composed of two separate pieces: the cup, and the saucer upon which it neatly sits. With its monumental proportions, this piece brings a mega-size sense of whimsy to any setting. Artist Information: Jaye Kim is a Korean-American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching emerge to tell a story about our everyday domestic objects, highlighted by delicate lustres and stunning, saturated glaze work. Jaye Kim is a graduated of the School of Visual Arts, where she studied animation. Her work has been shown at Egg Collective...
