Large Scale Sculptural Ceramic Vessel in High Gloss and Matte Black by Jaye Kim

About the Item

This one-of-a-kind, oversized black glazed ceramic vase is hand-built by Korean-American artist Jaye Kim. This unique, large-scale vessel has a contrasting glossy and matte finish that plays together beautifully on the surface of the piece. Visually arresting and monumental, this unique and sculptural ceramic vessel is a gorgeous presence in any room. The piece can be used as a cachepot for a plant, as a vase to hold flowers (fresh cut or dried), or simply placed on a pedestal as a standalone work of art. Artist Information: Jaye Kim is a Korean-American ceramic artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in a ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skincare face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand-built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching emerge to tell a story about our everyday domestic objects, highlighted by delicate lusters and stunning, saturated glaze work.
