Op-Art Studio line Bisque porcelain vase, by Martin Freyer Studio Line Rosenthal

About the Item

A fantastic Bisque porcelain Op-Art vase from Studio line Rosenthal made by the talented Martin Freyer, Germany. A rather large black ceramic vase with incredible design. The vase is a piece of art. It has imprinted patterns which resemble a fossil. The surface has a matt finish due to the bisque technique using unglazed pottery. This vase was made in the late 60s, but still has a very contemporary feeling, simple yet still sophisticated and will be a centerpiece in any setting. It is 22cm (6.66") high and 7.5cm(2.95") wide and 6.5cm (2.55") deep. There are some watermarks on the inside, yet the outside is in perfect condition. The price includes free shipping. Rosenthal Studio line In 1961, Philip Rosenthal set the course for product development with the development of the “Rosenthal studio-line” brand. Long before design was in vogue, Rosenthal had already been working with contemporary artists, designers and architects, and amongst these were famous names such as Raymond Loewy, Walter Gropius, Tapio Wirkkala, Lisa Larsson, Salvador Dali, Werner Schreib, Martin Freyer and Sebastian Herkner. To date, more than 150 artists have designed unique collections for Rosenthal and about 500 design prizes and numerous testimonials in internationally renowned museums and galleries attest to the leading role that Rosenthal has continued to play in innovative design. Rosenthal One of the world's most famous companies regarding ceramics and design. The company was started in 1879, by Philipp Rosenthal by opening a porcelain painting workshop in Schloss Erkersreuth in 1879 and a few years later in 1891, they start producing their own porcelain. In 1897, Philipp Rosenthal enters into an alliance with several other porcelain manufacturers and forms Porzellan AG, and among these brands can be found, among others, Bavaria and KPM. Only in 1907 was the factory named Rosenthal and the following year they took over the Thomas brand founded in 1904. In 1931, they received a license from Walt Disney to manufacture Mickey Mouse in porcelain. They make 6 different models of Mickey and create their first large collector's series. During the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s, a lot of studio goods were created. This is launched through self-owned Grupp 21 and Studiohuset in Nurnberg. In 1971, Timo Sarpaneva temporarily works for the factory and creates several iconic design classics.
