Copper Metal Enamel Modern Vessels Abstract Design by Harold Tishler 1950s
Located in Miami, FL
Two Modern abstract design small Copper Enamel Vessels by Harold Tishler from the 1950s. One in white enameling in relief over shiny copper background with some gray colored streaks throughout and turquoise glaze inside. Signed inside bottom H. Tishler. The second vessel/cup, was rendered with a thickly applied dark gray enameling fading into a very light gray towards the top on a bright copper background. The inside dark blue enamel. This cup is not signed. Measurements: 2 1/2 inches diameter x 2 3/8 inches high. Condition: The white vase has some gray colored streaks that are intentional. Both vases have some very small flakes around the inside of rim. The white/copper vase has some minor crackle of the enamel in two areas. Please look at all images and view our other Tishler creations. Harold Tishler (1893, Odessa – 1993, Florida) Studied engineering in 1910 at University of Grenoble but did not finished his studies and moved to New York 1913. During WWI, he joined the Merchant Marines and while visiting Japan was introduced to the art of Cloisonne enameling. In 1927, Tishler went to Vienna to study under Josef Hoffmann. Upon his return to NYC in 1932, he began producing copper and silver enamels that were sold at high-end stores. In 1935, Tishler visited a fellow student from the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, Edward Winter in Cleveland. Tishler was impressed by Winter’s enameling...

Stoin for Burley Winter Pair of Vases, American Art Deco Pottery 1930s
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage pair of Art Deco ceramic vases feature matte mottled and splash glaze in green and pastel pink palette. The minimal, but elegant shape of the vases, created in contemporary Art Deco style with strong Arts and Crafts influence, was used as a canvas to explore the effects that can be achieved with different applications of the tints and shades of green colored glaze on the pale pink background. The vases form the cohesive pair that offers an additional visual interest in glaze variations on surface decoration. The vases are marked with the identical model numbers on the bottoms; the definitive attribution can be made by various printed and online resources. The Burley Winter...

Vitrix Hot Glass Studio Cobalt and Gold Bud Vase, NY Art Glass
By Thomas Buechner III
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural Organic Modern vase was hand blown with thin layer of gold foil fused over cobalt blue glass. The abstract, graphic pattern is swirling around the curves of the vase; the whole structure is enclosed in thin layer of clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and definition to the piece. Minimal shape of the vase allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage. The vase is signed and dated in etching on the bottom; rare, hard to find example of vintage Vitrix glasswork would make a great gift to any studio glass or art collector. Founded in 1979 by brothers Matthew and Thomas Buechner III in Corning's Market Street District, Vitrix Hot Glass...

Jon Kuhn Early Sculptural Op-Art Vase, American Art Studio Glass, 1982
By Jon Kuhn
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Triangular faceted vase features a graphic pattern of ruby red, white, and dichroic glass encased in clear glass layers in sommerso technique. The body of the vase is cut and polished in triangular shape, exposing complex, colorful core; the subtle sheen of dichroic glass adds complexity and visual interest to a reserved color scheme. The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; this rare, hard to find example of American studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass, art collector, or modern design enthusiast. Jon Kuhn is one of the foremost glass artists in his field, creating highly intricate architectural glass art sculpture that has won world-wide acclaim. He received BFA from Washburn University in 1974, MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1978, and Honorary DFA from Washburn University in 2006. Jon Kuhn early work was done in molten glass, but currently he works in cold glass that is cut, polished, and fused, resulting in sculptures that take in surrounding light, then reflects and refracts it back; they appear to change color and radiance when viewed from different angles and lighting. Kuhn creates cold glass art in a variety of shapes and forms, but he is perhaps best known for his glass cubes which contain a colorful glass interior cased in clear glass. Kuhn’s work stands out for its complexity, its geometric forms, and for its mesmerizing presence. Jon Kuhn glass...

Large Haeger Modern Ceramic Drip Glaze Vase Vessel Raku Collection
By Haeger
Located in Chesterfield, NJ
Large and impressive Japanese influenced vase by Haeger. This vessel is from the 1980s and has a bulbous form with a slightly irregular opening and is finished in a charcoal black matte and metallic bronze colored drip glaze. Retains the original label on the bottom - Haeger, American Made, 4416. About Haeger Potteries, from Collectors Weekly: Founded in 1871 as the Dundee Brickyard, Haeger Potteries was one of the leading American manufacturers of art pottery, jardinieres, and figurines. Beyond bricks, its first products appeared around the turn of the century in the form of red flower pots for florists. By 1912, Haeger Potteries was offering customers multiple lines of what it called "artware," some influenced by an Arts and Crafts aesthetic (its buttress-handle vases come to mind), others hearkening back to forms developed by the ancient Greeks and given evocative names like Adam and Eve. One of the biggest changes in the company's fortunes occurred in 1938, when a designer named Royal Hickman was hired by Haeger. Hickman focused on Haeger's artware, a line that was quickly named Royal Haeger, presumably to capitalize on Hickman's reputation but also to imitate the names of potteries in England such as Royal Albert and Royal Doulton. The figurines produced by Royal Haeger, the most famous of which was Hickman's black panther from 1941, were a smash with customers, as was the company's white gazelle, whose style appeared to straddle Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern. Subsequent designers such as Eric Olsen added to the Royal Haeger legacy—his muscular red bull was introduced in 1955. Throughout its history, Haeger also made lamps, from models designed for tables and desks during the Art Deco era to its popular TV lamps of the 1950s. In fact, the Mid-Century Modern tendency runs strong in Haeger; collectors of vintage Haeger know that ceramists such Sascha Brastoff got their start working for the firm. Some of these same collectors look for vintage Haeger ashtrays...
