Pair of 19th Century Chinese Hand Painted Porcelain Vases on Brass Bases

About the Item

These elegant colorful antiques vases were created in China circa 1870. Standing on platform brass bases, the large vessels feature a flared rim and tapered body. Each body is decorated with hand painted garden scenes depicting birds, wildflowers, and a pond on one side. The other side features traditional Chinese markings that fill the entire body. The tall vases are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and adorn rich painted colors in a green and blue palette over a white background. Markings throughout the body for further identification. Measures: 9.75" diameter x 25.5" height (including bases).

This round and colorful antique planter was created in “Faïencerie de Gien," France, circa 1890. The large porcelain flower pot has intertwined snake handles, and features traditional Greek style motifs throughout. The sculptural, ceramic vase is decorated with hand painted traditional allegory motifs, including the Horn of plenty and lambrequin mantling decor. The elegant porcelain piece is in excellent condition with rich painted colors in the blue, white and yellow palette inside and out. Stamped Gien France underfoot for further authentication. The Faïencerie de Gien is a ceramic factory in the Loire Valley, founded in 1821 by Thomas Edme Hulm. Amongst the many faience manufacturers in the 19th century, the reputation of Gien is equal to those of the factories of Creil, Longwy or Sarreguemines.
