Pair of Chinese Red Lacquer Square Fantail Vases
About the Item
Made for serving food and spirits, this narrow wine table once gathered together convivial imbibers who engaged in group toasts and lively conversation. Dated to the 19th century, the table is crafted of northern elm (yumu) with mortise-and-tenon joinery, without the use of nails and screws. Ideal as a side table or console, it has a recessed-leg design with four round legs, straight stretcher bars, and a narrow, floating-panel tabletop. The original black lacquer finish has weathered from years of use, revealing the warm coloring of the underlying wood.
