Pair of Empire Period Antique Parisian Porcelain Vases

About the Item

This pair of antique porcelain vases, dating from the early 19th century in the period of Napoleonic rule known as the Empire period, are decorated with rich gilt ground and feature Fine cartouches on the front and reverse. The vases are set on square bases with waisted socles. Above, the bodies of the vases feature oval shaped cartouches which depict putti playing in a landscape on the reverse, and scenes of figures playing cards and drinking on the front. The cartouches are set on a gilt ground which has been tooled and decorated with palmettes, rosettes and acanthus leaves. Each of the vases is mounted with twin scrolling handles, inside which there is a matte gilt ground panel which depicting the figure of Cupid.
