About the Item

A striking pair of English Mason’s Ironstone lidded vases dating to circa 1840, richly decorated in cobalt blue and gilt. Exemplifying the bold neoclassical revival style of early Victorian ceramics, these tall urn-form vases feature exuberant acanthus scrolls, classical urn motifs, and sculptural gilt handles terminating in foliate scrolls. The domed lids are surmounted by ornate finials echoing the scrolling ornamentation below. Each vase rests on an octagonal base - measuring 5" x 5" - and displays the confident color palette characteristic of Mason’s Ironstone — the deep ultramarine ground providing a vivid contrast to the intricate hand-gilded decoration. The combination of grandeur and graphic contrast gives these pieces both historical presence and contemporary appeal. Standing 20 inches high, this matched pair would create a commanding focal point on a mantel, console, or dining sideboard. Their decorative richness makes them ideal for both traditional and eclectic interiors.
