Pair of French Neoclassical Style Swan Handle Porcelain Vases
About the Item
This pair of comprises pendant krater-shaped porcelain vases. Each vase’s wide-lipped ovoid body is supported by a flared stem, which stands on a square-sided podium. Most strikingly, each vase in the pair is mounted with two porcelain swan necked and winged handles. The decorative scheme of the vases is spare yet refined. The front of each vase is painted with a gilt-bound portrayal of a castle within an idyllic landscape, while the reverse is decorated with painted bouquets of flowers executed in pastel shades of blue, green, and pink. These painted scenes are all imposed upon the bright blue porcelain ground of each vase. Each vase is parcel gilt and is marked underside.
