About the Item

Colourful pair of Japanese 'Chinoiserie Style' polychromed blue and yellow vases. Decorated with a bold hand-enamelled scene depicting a green pheasant perched atop a sakura (cherry blossom) branch, further adorned with bright peony flowers and green foliage against a bold cobalt blue enamel backdrop. Symbolising good fortune and springtime. The neck of the vase is enamelled in bright yellow and decorated with scrolls and flowers which encircle the vase neck. This bold composition of bright colours offers a unique style not typically seen in Japanese porcelain. The choice of bold colours and graphic style decoration means it was most likely created for export by the famed Yamatoku Kiln around the 1960s. Each vase measures 12 cm in height and 8 cm in diameter. Both in very good condition and come stamped to their base with ‘Made in Japan’ in red.
