About the Item

A beautiful pair of signed Japanese porcelain vases dating from the late 19th century (Meiji period, 1868–1912). Each vase features a slender, elongated silhouette with a flared, scalloped corolla-style collar, emphasizing the delicacy of its form and the elegance of traditional Japanese design. The vases are hand-painted, with a vibrant red-orange enamel dominating the decoration, characteristic of Imari and Kutani porcelain of the period. Each face of the vases is richly decorated within cartouches: One face depicts samurai warriors at rest, dressed in kimonos and seated cross-legged on mats, gathered around a fire and playing music. The other face features an elegant floral composition, with orange and mauve orchids and cherry blossoms arranged in a large vase. The scalloped collar is also adorned with medallions featuring floral motifs, adding a refined and harmonious touch to the overall design. These vases showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of 19th-century Imari or Kutani workshops and make perfect pieces for collectors of Asian art or for enhancing an interior with striking and highly decorative objects.
