About the Item

A pair of unusual large Japanese cast bronze vases, Meiji period, 1860-1912. Patinated bronze with bronze highlights, the top lip with a Greek key frieze, the neck and body with cast branches, turtles, and birds, the lower part with a large dragon wrapping around the base. Excellent bronze castings and chasing with nice patina. Provenance: Knuthenborg castle, Lolland, Denmark. Purchased by the Count of Knuthenborg on his educational tours in the late 19th century.
