About the Item

This pair of Arita porcelain vases is rare and perfectly illustrates the refinement and virtuosity of Japanese workshops of the period. Each vase features rich ornamentation, entirely hand-painted in a vibrant palette and delicately enhanced with gilding over a deep red ground — a symbolic color in Japan, associated with prosperity and strength. The artist skillfully plays with a subtle contrast between matte and glossy surfaces, creating luminous effects that emphasize the depth and vitality of the motifs. The large cartouches depict samurai warriors in armor, rendered with remarkable precision, while the smaller panels portray birds and luxuriant landscapes, adding a poetic and harmonious balance to the composition. The interiors of the necks and the fan-shaped cartouches on the shoulders are also finely decorated, a testament to the exceptional quality of the craftsmanship. The porcelain work is characteristic of the finest Arita productions. Each vase bears, on the underside, the signature in red enamel of the master potter, a mark of authenticity and artistic value. The vases are in very good condition, showing only slight wear and minor firing imperfections consistent with their handmade origin. A rare and elegant pair, ideal for any collector of Japanese art or as a refined statement piece in a distinguished interior.
