Pair Ormolu Bronze Mounted Cobalt Blue Porcelain Urns in Sevres Louis XV Style

About the Item

Our Sevres Louis XV style vases with cobalt blue glazes feature extensive gilt designs including the Louis XV coat of arms with three fleur-de-lis in shield surrounds by the chains of the orders of Saint Michael and the Holy Spirit, plus finely cast and gilt bronze mounts including serpent handles and rose garlands. Covers on the inside are signed 1777 and Chateau de Versailles with spurious Sevres marks. This design is apparently based on a pair of similarly mounted and decorated green porphyry vases which debuted at the Chateau de Versailles in 1793 and now reside in the Louve. (Louve inventory OA 5270.) This pair are depicted in Gilt Bronzes in the Louvre, Daniel Daniel Alcouffe et al., Dijons, 2004, p. 226.
