Paolo Crepax Asimmetrico Organic Vase Amethyst Gray Incalmo Murano Glass, Signed

$1,616.87

About

Paolo Crepax asimmetrico vase. The vase made of two separate parts joined together called incalmo. The main part is in a beautiful amethyst, the upper part is in Grigio Acciaio (a warm gray). Paolo is famous for his ability with the incalmo technique. He is just considered the best ever. This technique is based on joining two cups on the edge rim and making a perfect joint so that it can be blown as an unique piece. Famous incalmo pieces are the Tapio Wirkkala bolle for Venini. The limit of the incalmo is that the perfect fusion of the two cups requires to piece to be perfectly round of the same diameter and after the joint the result piece is too cold to allow more working. Here Paolo astonishes with an asymmetric incalmo with a wonderful organic elegant shape. The flap in the middle comes from merging a closed vase with an open bowl and by itself that is already unique. Paolo started working for Livio Seguso and have made wonderful collections for Missoni and Vistosi. A masterpiece of glassmaking that a handful of person can make. No one at this level. Yet an elegant piece with a rare modern color that would brighten any space. Over a console or on a cocktail table. A side story, if you ever get to see Murano don't miss going to the restaurant Alla Busa, everyone knows it as Lele. Lele Masiol is a wonderful chef and it's lovely to spend some time with him. This is his second life, he was for decades the marketing director of Effetre International, yes the Effetre who nursed the raising star of Lino Tagliapietra. Whenever I need a help in expertise for Lino or Effetre pieces, I stop there. Oh well, I stop there even if there is no need for a help because the food and the company is just amazing. I always belived that he did not like the works of Paolo Crepax, simply because at the time of La Filigrana Paolo was a competitor of Effetre and made some knockouts of the Magia suspension. On the contrary he said that he has seen some of the Asimmetrici from Paolo Crepax and believed that they were exceptional. There is nothing better than a compliment from an old competitor!. Lele has a deep knowledge of glass making and he knows how difficult is to get this shape with the incalmo technique.
