About the Item

The new 2023 vase collection is inspired by the life cycle of Lepidoptera, from the chrysalis (Chrysallis) to the butterfly (Papilio). The giant butterflies inspire the Papilio vase. The sustainable stone components identify the body extension of the wings and antennae, while the painted glass cylinder draws its abdomen. This vase comprises four elements that can be disassembled and reused since they are only placed next to each other through a particular shape that avoids permanent connections. The stone is entirely handmade, created using fragments of sedimentary rock from Matera and the Apennines, combined with mineral pigments, without extracting new material and electricity. The surface is hand carved. It is advisable not to wet the stone and to dust it using a vacuum cleaner. Like all COKI products, it is entirely made in Italy with raw materials processed according to the highest standards of recovery of virgin stones and using only substances that are not harmful to humans and the environment, without components of animal origin. The technique makes it possible to unite fragments of historical stones found in Matera (Città dei Sassi, UNESCO World Heritage, European Capital of Culture) and sedimentary rocks of the Italian Apennines, recovered and reprocessed following a sustainable production cycle. MATERIALS • Handcrafted stone (with Matera stone fragments, sedimentary rocks of the Italian Apennines, and pure water) • Orange mineral pigments • Painted borosilicate glass Production area • Handcrafted stone: South Italy • Borosilicate hand-painted glass: Northern Italy Assembly • The vase comprises 4 separate pieces; you'll create the shape by putting them together. Cleaning and care • This type of stone is porous and cannot be wetted with water or detergents; it can be dusted with a vacuum cleaner. • Pay much attention during the movements to join the components to abrupt maneuvers that can mark the glaze of the glass. • Clean the bottom of the glass component by filling it with wine vinegar and letting it sit for a whole day. Then pour the vinegar into a closed glass or plastic bottle and save it for the next use (do not throw the vinegar in the toilet or sink, it damages aquatic organisms). Rinse the jar with water and dry it with a soft cloth. Cleaning brush and ecological handling gloves included. Vegan and cruelty-free production.
