"Prancing Deer", Large, High Style Art Deco Vase by Hentschel for Rookwood
$4,750

About the Item
Richly glazed in tones of rosy pumpkin and blackish-brown, this large Art Deco vase is decorated with highly stylized depictions of prancing deer, surrounded by curling foliate motifs. The dark glaze of the figures drips down the face of the vase, creating a lovely, complex design that is highly sophisticated. The vase was sculpted and glazed by William Hentschel, one of the two or three most important artists working at Rookwood in the Art Deco era. After many years at Rookwood, Hentschel went on to found the Kenton Hills Pottery, also in Cincinnati.
