Anzolo Fuga
Raised in the upper echelon of Murano glass-making families, Anzolo Fuga learned much of his exceptional design skills in school, but enriched his studies with teachings from his father Emilio Fugo, director of Cristalleria di Venezia e Murano, and his grandfather Giuseppe Barovier, an Art Nouveau-era master of Murrine glass and cofounder of Artisti Barovier (Giuseppe’s nephews would later help establish one of the most enduring and prosperous Italian glass manufactories, Barovier & Toso, during the 1930s).
Fuga graduated in 1939 from Istituto d’Arte di Venezia, where he developed an interest in stained glass and studied alongside Barovier & Toso designer Guido Balsamo Stella. In 1947, Fuga and his brother opened their own workshop, which specialized in making and selling works of decorative blown glass until 1955.
Later, while in his role as director and instructor at Abate Zanetti School, Fuga worked freelance from 1955 to 1960 for the highly distinguished Murano glass firm A.V.E.M as well as I.V.R. Mazzega and Domus Vetri D’Arte. Fuga’s stained panels were a part of exhibitions at biennales and can be seen inside various religious structures in Australia, Venice and Jerusalem.
