Gustave Asch Sainte Radegonde Pair of Blue Glazed Terracotta Vases

About the Item

Tan France Auction Pick We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Beautiful and important pair of blue enameled terracotta vases with refined pure gold decorations; made between 1923 and 1926 (René Buthaud period) in Art Deco style in the French factory of Sainte-Radegonde in Tours (Indre-et-Loire), founded in 1887 by Gustave Asch (1856-1911). The famous ceramist Gustave Asch developed in his workshops the blue very close to that of Sevres, known as "the blue of Tours" in 1890. His products had an incredible success thanks to the accurate and original workmanship, especially in the perfection of the pure gold decorations that stood out in an exceptional way on the blue background of the enameled terracotta. Sainte-Radegonde's products are marked on the bottom with a shaped ax and a number or letter for artisan decorators; our vases also bear this type of markings. The couple is in excellent condition, but they have some small imperfections (see photo), this is a problem that almost always occurs overtime on the blue vases of Tours; in fact, they are made of glazed terracotta and fired in a furnace at a temperature between 960 ° and 30 °, while for porcelain firing is between 1200 ° and 1300 ° and for ceramics between 1400 ° and 1700 °, this explains why terracotta products are less stable over time and may have imperfections as in our case( the vases are 97 years old), but they are imperfections that testify to their authenticity. Measures: diameter cm.16, height cm. 30. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
