Scandinavian art glass Vase by Kjell Engman, Sea Glassbruk, Sweden

About the Item

Vintage beautiful cased glass vase, made and signed by the talented Kjell Engman for SEA, Sweden. Inspired by a stormy sea this vase have a fantastic shape and they have been produced using sommerso or cased technique. The color is fantastic with various shades of dark blue, purple and some pale grey or white hints, cased with clear crystal, which gives it a contemporary feeling and will be adding to any interior setting on its own or with flowers in it. The price includes free shipping. It is 21cm high (8.26") and 10cm (3.93") wide and 7cm (2.75") deep, there is a minor air bubble on the surface and some minor abrasion, yet overall of a very good condition and this vase is a work of art. Sea Glasbruck was founded by Inge Samuelsson, Sven Ernstsson och Tore Andersson in 1956. The name SEA was achieved by combining the first letter of the last name of the three owners. But glass production at the mill had been around since 1953, when Ekeberga glass works was founded at the site just outside Kosta. They made most raw glass for further refinement of the company Dekor-Etching in Kosta. In 1956, Samuelsson/Ernstsson/Andersson bought Ekeberga glassworks and started up new manufacturing there. Inge Samuelsson was not only one of the owners, but also worked as designer for SEA. The Rocket vase was one of his most successful models. SEA glass factory in Kosta has a long history within Swedish crafts in the Småland glass industry. Their products are meant to be used in everyday life and have an expression that is easy to like and adopt.

Kosta Boda Glasbruk Founded in 1742 had an early production focusing on consisted of window glass, chandeliers and drinking glasses. From the 1840s, the factory was at the forefront of new trends and technical developments, producing pressed glass, and in the 1880s setting up a new glass-cutting workshop. The factory is situated in what is known as the Chrystal Kingdom region in Sweden. In 1903, the company merged with the Reijmyre glasbruk (glassworks) but both retained their own names and Kosta went on to maintain its reputation as one of the leading Swedish manufacturers with a range of fine art glass and tableware by distinguished designers such as Vicke Lindstrand, artistic director from 1950-1973.
