Thomson was a renowned painter and ceramicist educated at institutions including Konstfack in Stockholm. She worked at St: Eriks Lervarufabrik from 1928 to 1933, significantly contributing to their production during her tenure. In the 1930s, she became the artistic director at the factory. In 1933, she left St: Erik to join Upsala Ekeby, collaborating with notable artists such as Sven Erik Skawonius and Vicke Lindstrand. Among her creations were the Paprika series in 1948, which continued production into the early 1960s, as well as Lancett, Havsflora, Athene, and Marina. Her works ranged from small figurines to large floor vases and tile tables, characterized by simple and clean forms with motifs inspired by flora and the sea. Much of her inspiration came from Grundsund on the west coast, where she had a summer house. Anna Lisa’s ceramics won awards in Paris (1937) and New York (1939). After her death, the "Anna-Lisa Thomson's Memory" foundation was established to award annual prizes to female artists. Her pieces were typically stamped or signed "A.L.T.", "A-L.T", or "Thomson".
