Sculptural Ceramic Vase in Metallic Glazes by Sean Gerstley
About the Item
"Bronco," a large ceramic vase in metallic glazes by Sean Gerstley. The work is from a new series of vessels with exaggerated features and patchwork glazes, representing a departure from his ceramic tile furniture, which typically employs even, rich fields of color.
About Sean Gerstley
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Sean Gersley’s interest in sculpture and interior spaces is translated using clay as his primary medium. Working from his home studio, Gerstley has created a ceramic world of slab and coil built forms with pinchy surfaces and unique glazes, often bursting with color. The artist debuted his first series of earthenware furniture with Superhouse (New York, NY) in 2020 and has continued to experiment with the form leading up to his first solo show with Superhouse, Sean Gerstley: Tile Block. Gerstley has shown at Emma Scully Gallery (New York, NY), Air Mattress Gallery (New York, NY), and the 99cent Plus Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and his work is held in a number of important private collections. The artist has been featured in several publications including Architectural Digest, Artforum, Curbed, Design Milk, Elle Decor Italia, Interior Design, Metropolis, Sight Unseen, and Surface.

- Hand-Sculpted & Gilded Ceramic Figural Fruit Bowl by Sean GerstleyBy Sean GerstleyLocated in New York, NYThis larger-than-life figural sculpture is functional ceramic serving-ware. Standing nearly 6' feet tall, with hand-sculpted vegetal, delicate leaf-like petals and pinched palm-like trunk, it is topped by a splendiferous fruit crown reminiscent of a pineapple or bunch of bananas. This friendly, human-scale piece offers to serve up three gilded platters of fine cheese, charcuterie, fresh fruit, canapés, or crudités, in a most charming and hospitable fashion. Additional Information: Commissioned for an installation at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood entitled 'Hall of Mirrors,' the work is a response to a prompt to materialize the overt display of social media. This piece was created along with two other fruit bowls, each unique. This is the last available fruit bowl of the original trio. Artist Information: Sean Gerstley (b. 1989) is a Philadelphia-based ceramicist. Working primarily with clay, Gerstley creates both sculptural and functional objects, pinching the surfaces of his coil-built forms finished off with colorful glazes. Expanding the role of ceramics from dinnerware or vessel to larger scale objects such as tables or floor lamps, Gerstley imagines interiors made entirely of his chosen medium. After graduating from the ceramics program at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, Gerstley showed work made in collaboration with Katie Stout at Salon 94 in New York and Nina Johnson...Category
