SHAPING THE EARTH/ BORMIO II (ITA). Vase with soil and river sand

About the Item

It is dressed in its colors and textures. Each object is made and dedicated to the place where the material from which it is made came from, partially or in its entirety. In this STONE FOREST SERIES of vessels, the value of time is also investigated in an inter-semiotic exchange between languages and materials: a fossil forest with recovered and collected lands, in close connection with the land and in memory of its history. This is a unique piece, made from a modular metal base with an organic-looking ceramic part-irregularly vaguely resembling a floral corolla, a blooming bud. Made of terracotta and brown refractory earth, engobed and coated with earth and river sand collected in the surroundings of the mountain resort of Bormio (SO) , Lombadria region-Italy, altitude about 2000m above sea level. It is rough to the touch and earthy in appearance, speckled in relief with a grainy white sand. 23 cm base: h 10, diam. 6 cm
