About the Item

Glazed earthenware with hand-painted decoration in gold. Background: Einar Törning (1884-1941) came to Upsala-Ekeby in 1928, and worked in the painting hall. He was known for his skillful gold painting and decorated series wares with colorful gold contoured fruits and cacti against dazzling black bottoms. However, he has been particularly noted for vases and dishes with a matte bottom colour and thin, elegant gold stretch décor, produced for export, which partly explains their rarity on the market. Stylistically, one would say today that, at a time when Bauhaus and funkis were on the agenda, he devoted himself to the “decorative arts”, art deco, or if you like Swedish Grace.
