Silice Vase, Blown Glass, Unique 18

About the Item

In the Silice collection, both concept and process are a source of inspiration and reverie. Here, the whims and vagaries of temperature, air, and gravity are imprinted in a myriad of unique forms and unexpected combinations. Mold + free glass blowing are the premise and technique behind these objects emerging from José Miguel Gómez’s aesthetical thinking, Caterina Moretti’s expertise with different materials and Diego Vides Borrell’s artistry. “By way of extensive exploration, we have discovered that the possibilities for creating shapes that are both structured yet non-preconceived, can be infinite.” Caterina Moretti Born from Caterina Moretti’s contemplations, these three cylindrical shapes of different heights that part from a mold comprised of a repetition of wooden rods is a truly symbolic warp, weaving the threads of art and design together, as well as the genesis of the collection we have called Sílice. By studying the external texture of the wooden rods, curiosity to further delve into what might become of the interior space if we used them as molds for the blown glass technique, or if we experimented with non-preconceived forms, and if we created a parametric design in an analog fashion and experienced the performance under the premise of: mold + free blown glass. Artists José Miguel Gómez and Diego Vides Borell were invited by Caterina to fuse their emotions, their thoughts and creativity into Sílice. To broaden the concept, breathing in and out the design of these stunning containers. This piece belongs to 1 out of 6 possibilities. Possibility 6 We created parametric shapes in an analog way by placing one mold on top of another and altered the shapes by sliding the pieces before blowing; by means of the free crown technique, which resulted in organic shapes subtle and expressive.
