Stamped Chinese Yunnan Pot, c. 1800
About the Item
This unique 19th century Chinese earthenware pot is distinguished by its remarkable stamp pattern. With a brown drip glaze, this vase features a bulbous shaped body that stands on a flat unglazed base. The round body tapers to a constricted neck, left unfinished at the rim. Pressed around the mid-section of the jar are incised geometric patterns within a circular border. These impressions enliven the simply shaped vessel with visual rhythm and all-over texture. Tucked alongside other stylized vessels or filled with foliage in a garden, this large Yunnan pot is a wonderful addition to any space.
