Stephen Smyers Modern Blown Art Glass Vase Abstract Feather Design, 1979

About the Item

Fascinating Stephen Smyers, California 1979 modern art glass hand-blown vase. This beautiful handmade glass is unique compared to anything created in his studio. This vase features a hollow and elegant bulbous sculptural form crafted from clear glass, with a submerged filigree in white, orange, blue, and brown that resembles the lines of a feather. It is a substantial and weighty piece, and the quality and craftsmanship are excellent, with clean, modern lines and clarity and depth to the glass. The vase is engraved underside: Smyers 79. Measurements: 4 in diameter (10.5 cm) x 5 in high (13 cm). Note: Glass Artisan Stephen Smyers is one of the true innovators of the contemporary glass movement. For more than thirty-five years, the simple elegance of Smyers Glass has graced fine tables worldwide. Renowned for their artful innovation and classic appeal, Smyers' award-winning designs have placed the company in the vanguard of contemporary glass studios. In the creative atmosphere of the studio, where Smyers and his assistant mouth blow and hand finish each piece individually, glassware of lasting beauty is crafted with impeccable quality and artisanship. Beginning with his first award-winning stemware design, the company has steadily grown to international repute. Smyers Glass is included in the permanent collection of the Corning Museum of Glass and numerous private collections. It is sold exclusively in fine art stores and galleries throughout the world. Versatile and well-balanced, Smyers glassware collections are boldly original and classically beautiful. Clean, fluent lines and elegant motifs make Smyers Glass the perfect complement to a formal table setting, an intimate dinner, a special celebration, or an everyday repast.

  • Willy Johansson for Hadeland Norway Art-Glass "Atlantic" Tall Vase
    By Willy Johansson, Hadeland
    Located in Atlanta, GA
This beautiful art glass vase was designed by Willy Johansson (1921 - 1993) for Hadeland Glassverk, Norway. It is smooth to the touch, but the appearance looks heavily textured with ribs and bubbles trapped in glass. From the Atlantic series, this vase has a cylindrical fluted shape in heavy lead crystal clear glass with deep ribbed sides and internal bubbles in the lower half of the vase. Finely flat ground and highly polished top with an overhang style lip, this art-glass has a nice modernist flair. The vase is signed on the underside and reads Hadeland - WJ. Measurements: 4.75 in diameter (12 cm) x 10 in high (25.5 cm). Note: Willy Johansson was a (1921- 1993) Norwegian glassware designer. Between 1939-42, he studied Statens Handvaerks -og Kunstindustriskole Oslo. His father was at the Hadelands Glassverk, Jevnaker, where Johansson joined the glassmaking workshop in 1936. He was best known for the white rim on his clear or smoked glassware...
