Swedish Modern Stig Lindberg Grazia vase model 220 Stoneware and Silver

About the Item

Graceful Ceramic Grazia 220 vase by Stig Lindberg for Gustavberg studio. This vase has a dedication at the bottom. The vase has a white matte glaze with intricate raised silver painted motifs depicting dream-like flowers and plants growing out of a vase. The whimsical and botany-themed motif gives the whole vase an almost Art Nouveau look. On the Bottom of the vase, an inscription reads "Tack för åren 1950-1956, Konsum" which means "Thank you for the years 1950-1956, Konsum" in Swedish. Stig Lindberg (1916-1982) is one Scandinavia's most noted postwar designers. He joined the Gustavsberg studio in 1937 and was formed by Willhelm Kåge. He was named Kåge's successor in 1949 and became art director of Gustavsberg himself. His work was featured in Sweden's National Museum and has won many awards, including the Milan Triennale gold medal and Grand Prix. His designs from the 1950s and 1960s (such as this piece from 1967) are the most sought after.
