About the Item

Timo Sarpaneva received the Grand Prix award for this art piece in the Milan Triennial XI in 1957. It was made in a number of different colors. The material is glass, clear and violet, steam-blown, flared and cut. The overall condition is very good.. a few scratches on the bottom consistent with age and use. The name comes obviously from this art object´s resemblance of a cardinal´s hat. This item is in beautiful vintage condition. This item is signed Timo Sarpaneva, Iittala -57. Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was one of the most influential Finnish designers of his era. Mostly working with glass he is well known for his innovative style and beautiful art objects, that redefined the standard for finnish art glass. Timo was known to work very closely with the glassblowers to ensure perfect results. He was one of the trailblazers who pushed Finnish design to its worldwide recognition. We also have another one in green, slightly higher and narrower in dimenssions. It is also on offer on 1stdibs.
