About the Item

Trio of Gulvvase glass vases designed by Otto Brauer for Holmegaard. This set includes a pair of 17 inch tall blue vases and one green vase at 11.75 inch high. The iconic bottle shaped vases were designed in the 1960s and remain desirable amongst collectors. Brauer’s Gulvvase exemplifies the simple elegance found throughout Danish craftsmanship. These Gulvvases are olive green, part of the original color offerings. The pair of blue vases are identical, same size, same color, same condition. A rare matching pair of Otto Brauer’s “Gulvvase” glass floor vases for Holmegaard, these pieces embody the very essence of Danish mid-century sculptural glass art. Each vase measures approximately 52 cm (20.5 in) in height and 20 cm (7.9 in) in diameter at its widest point — majestic scale for display, yet refined in silhouette. Mouth-blown in deep, rich forest-green glass, the bottles display the fluidity and nuance only achieved through expert glassmaking tradition. Their surfaces retain a luminous gloss, accented by subtle air-bubbles and organic irregularities inherent in hand-blown work — these are not imperfections, but evidence of artisan technique and period authenticity. The “Gulvvase” series, first designed in 1962, remains one of Brauer’s most celebrated contributions to Scandinavian modernism. In these early single-color examples, the clarity and purity of tone are especially prized. The size of these vases is among the largest in the Gulvvase range, giving them a powerful presence whether placed on the floor as sculptural forms, alone in a minimalist space, or grouped as a distinctive display. Condition is excellent: no chips or cracks, with wear limited to faint surface marks consistent with age. Their substantial weight and form communicate durability; their verdant tone adds drama, depth, and a timeless elegance to interiors seeking character and heritage. A striking example of Scandinavian glass artistry, this blue-green "Gulvvase" by Otto Brauer for Holmegaard is elegant, sculptural, and colored with the serene yet dramatic tones that define mid-century European design. It stands approx 19½ inches (50 cm) tall, with a body diameter near 8½ inches (22 cm) and an opening around 4½ inches (11.5 cm) — generous scale that makes it both a floor vase and a showpiece. Hand-blown glass in deep aquamarine transitioning into teal and bluish emerald hues, the vase has a softly rounded, bottle-like silhouette with a gentle narrowing at the neck and a flared lip. The glass is thick, its walls weighty, with internal bubbles and rich coloration that show the hand-made process and organic variability in tone that collectors prize. It appears in very good vintage condition: no major cracks or chips; the lip is intact, and the coloration remains saturated with minimal fading. Some fine surface wear or light scratches may be visible under close inspection — normal for a piece of this age — but they add character rather than detract. The base shows typical wear of contact, but remains stable and strong. This vase does more than hold flowers—it anchors space. Perfect for pairing with sculptural accessories, placing in natural light so its color shifts with time of day, or using as a centerpiece on low stands or consoles. The blue-green tone harmonizes with warm woods, pale leathers, brass accents, or even stark minimal surroundings where color can sing. For collectors of Holmegaard, Otto Brauer works, or Scandinavian modern glass, this “Gulvvase” offers rarity, form, and finish. It carries design heritage, expressive color, and the kind of scale that elevates décor from supporting detail to sculptural focal point. This listing is one price for three glass Gulvvases. The round black vase and other accessories or furniture pictured are NOT included with purchase.
