Unique Cherry Red Art Glass Vase by Mikael Axenbrant, Sweden 1990

About the Item

This heavy and elegant art glass vase bursting in color, is made by the glass master Mikael Axenbrant in 1990. Glossy red like a delicate cherry with blue, white, and black strokes and dots. Engraved: "Strömbergshyttan Unik (Unique) 1990, M. Axenbrant". Unik means unique in English. Sticker: "Studioglas Strömbergshyttan" CONDITION Really good condition. There is a about 7 mm crack in the glass underneath the outer glass surface. It can be seen but it can not be felt when stroking a finger over it. This is perhaps due to a bubble that has bursted? It is placed to the lower right within the blue dots of the vase. Can be seen when enlarging the photos. Also, from some angles it looks like the vase is a little bit tilted. The overall impression is, however, very good and is not impacted by the issues that is mentioned. But the price is adjusted due to the crack underneath the outer glass surface. ABOUT STUDIOGLAS STRÖMBERGSHYTTAN Studioglas Strömbergshyttan started in 1987 in the town of Strömbergshyttan. The new glassworks studio was started by three master glassblowers who previously worked for Hovmantorp, Orrefors and Kosta Boda glassworks: Håkan Gunnarsson, Leif Persson and Mikael Axenbrant. During the late 1980s, Erik Höglund, among other well known artists, worked here. The brand name Studioglas Strömbergshyttan is sometimes confused with the former family-owned glassworks Strömbergshyttan. ABOUT MIKAEL AXENBRANT Master Mikael - born in 1957, is the third Master who founded Studioglas and has worked side by side with Leif Person, Håkan Gunnarsson, and several of the world's leading glass designers. Mikael started glassblowing as early as 15 years old and received his title as Master at the age of 35. His expertise in glassblowing and the industry is solid, where Mikael has experience in the entire chain from glassblowing to sales and also both in managing and running glassworks. Mikael has also taught glassblowing. Some of the glassworks that Mikael has been active in over the years are Kostaboda (glassblower approx. 10 years), Hovmantorp (glassblower 5 years), Bergdala Glasbruk (Foreman/Glassblower 5 years), as well as owner and founder of Studioglas - Strömbergshyttan, which he was a co-owner of for nearly 20 years. His main asset is his ability to create technically advanced solutions in art glass. Mikael often and likes to work in the form of heavy, sculpted pieces with a modernist design. His precision and advanced art glass has earned him several international recognitions, and is featured in galleries worldwide.

Notably, this vase bears an engraving underneath: "Fa W Johansson Orrefors 25." Despite this marking, it was indeed designed and crafted by Börne Augustsson for Åseda Glassworks.
