About the Item

A vintage, Japanese, red bronze vase from Yamagata. Yamagata is both a city and prefecture on the main island of Honshu. While bronze work originated in China, Japanese artisans have developed an array of techniques in the production of decorative bronzes that have elevated their vases to the highest quality craftsmanship. The vase has a classical globular shape and a deep rich colour and markings. Red bronze has a high copper content and this example displays a fine quality patina.
