About the Item

Unique Pair of Chinese Carved Cinnabar Vase, Same Shape, Different Decoration, China, Cultural Revolution Period 1966-1976 The vases are accompanied by a fine pair of carved hardwood stands.  A unique pair of Chinese-carved cinnabar vases from the Cultural Revolution period (1966–1976). These exquisite vases are notable for their identical shapes yet distinct decorations, each standing 15 inches high with a 7-inch diameter. The vases come with a fine pair of carved hardwood stands, enhancing their display and elegance. The blue enamel interior and base add a striking contrast to the rich cinnabar exterior. One vase features garden landscape vignettes on the front and back, while the other showcases scenes of birds and flowers. Despite these differences, both vases are decorated with an intricate, all-over geometric trellis design, exemplifying the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of this period. These large cinnabar vases are better than most, offering both artistic beauty and historical significance. Although unmarked, their quality and unique decorative elements make them a valuable addition to any collection of Chinese art. Ready to be placed and admired, this pair of vases is perfect for collectors and enthusiasts seeking to add a touch of cultural heritage and exquisite artistry to their collection or home.  Overall Measurements:  Vases on Carved Bases: 17.25 inches high x 6.5" diameter  Vases: 15 inches high by 7 inches in diameter Vase opening: 5.25" diameter; base diameter: 5.25" Raised on hard wood carved bases, 6.5" diameter x 2.25" high

Mid-20th Century Chinese Hand Carved Cinnabar Vase
Located in Pomona, CA
This vase was made during the Mid-20th Century in Beijing. It is very unique with intricate carving works of landscaping and characters. The workmanship is superb. It is very rare that there is no too much similar vases in existence, probably because it was too labour-intensive even for the court to mass produce. Lacquer is the sap of a tree (Rhus vernicifera) that grows in East Asia. It was tapped, filtered and mixed with cinnabar to produce a red color. The lacquer worker...
