Vase Abstract Bass Relief Decoration After Bernard Rooke 1970s Bronze Glaze
About the Item
We love this vase simply as a display piece - the shape and the surface pattern give great sculptural vibes and a sense of movement. It’s a super cool example of 1970s Brutalist ceramics - not so chunky and clunky, more understated and elegant.
Would work very well for Ikebana or any flower arrangement that needs a minimalist touch.
It offers the Ikebana practitioner a lovely solid starting point. It can sit on a window sill or shelf as it’s very slim but heavy enough to not to be unstable.
A slab construction vase, attributed to Bernard Rooke, unsigned. Two textured clay slabs have been joined to form a pocket. The opening of the vase slopes down to one side. Abstract shapes have been applied front and back in bas relief, flattened but standing our from the textured surface. A simple bronze-brown glaze is used to highlight these appliqué forms.

- Monumental Signed Shunichi Inoue White and Rose Ash Glazed Vase 1978By Shunichi InoueLocated in Melbourne, AUA wonderful example of the work of master Japanese potter, Shunichi Inoue. This vessel dates from his Australian residency. We love the potency of this very simple form - it has a powerful presence, connoting stillness, composure. For some reason it makes me think of the moon. It has the same still, calm, abiding presence. Shunichi Inoue studied ceramics at Kyoto City University of Arts 1969-75. He travelled to Australia to lecturer in ceramics at the Bendigo College of Advanced Education in Victoria, Australia where he stayed for three years. He returned to Australia in late 1984 as a visiting professor and again in 1993, when he made an extended stay. He was an active exhibitor and had an important influence on Australian pottery...Category
