About the Item

Amazing vase in purple murano blow glass with a wide mouth and applied handles attributed to Vittorio Zecchin. Made in Italy in the 1940s. A painter and artist from Murano interested in decorative arts, especially glass, Vittorio Zecchin (1878-1947), according to a practice that was then unheard of in Murano, from 1921 to 1925 followed the artistic direction of the V.S.M. Cappellin Venini & C glassworks, founded in 1921 by the Venetian antique dealer Giacomo Cappellin and the new Milanese lawyer Paolo Venini, together with other partners, with the aim of proposing a refined modern production. In accordance with the needs expressed by Cappellin and Venini, Zecchin created monochrome blown glass with extraordinary colours and classic and essential lines. Such production, which was clearly distinct from that of the time and fully responded to the new taste of the public, marked a decisive turning point in the Murano panorama of the 20th century, contributing significantly to the rebirth of this sector. The elegance of the design, combined with suggestive colours, also characterised the glass pieces created by Zecchin (between 1925 and 1926) for M.V.M. Cappellin & C, where he continued to work as artistic director after the end of the partnership between Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini, which occurred in 1925.
