Vase - Rouen earthenware fountain, flower pot - blue white - 18th century France

About the Item

Pretty earthenware wall fountain in the shape of a baluster with polychrome decoration in blue, yellow, red and white, surmounted by a shell flanked by dolphins. The decoration of the fountain, flower pot or vase represents a shell as well as two dolphins on the top of it. A daisy flower decoration is present on the body of the fountain. Finally, a lion is presented on the bottom of the fountain at the level of the spout. Can be used as a magnificent and imposing vase for beautiful bouquets of large flowers. France, Rouen - 18th Century From the 16th century, Rouen earthenware acquired an international reputation and became the preferred decoration of a nobility sensitive to the new Italian art of living. Rouen, which was at that time the second largest city in France, was indeed one of the first French manufacturers. It will spread its forms and patterns throughout Europe for nearly three centuries, before beginning a period of decline. As with other French factories, the aesthetics of Rouen earthenware is subject to stylistic influences from Europe and Asia.
