France, Rouen - 18th Century
From the 16th century, Rouen earthenware acquired an international reputation and became the preferred decoration of a nobility sensitive to the new Italian art of living. Rouen, which was at that time the second largest city in France, was indeed one of the first French manufacturers. It will spread its forms and patterns throughout Europe for nearly three centuries, before beginning a period of decline. As with other French factories, the aesthetics of Rouen earthenware is subject to stylistic influences from Europe and Asia.
