About the Item

Vaso in vetro con colorazioni marmoree giallo-arancio, interamente decorato con smalti policromi. La decorazione è costituita da tre riserve, raffiguranti un arciere intento a scoccare una freccia e dei cervidi entro paesaggio naturale, e da un reticolato arricchito da inserti in oro fuso. Firmato “M. Goupy” in smalto sotto la base. Marcel Goupy (Francia, 1886-1954) , formatosi inizialmente come architetto presso l’Ecole des Arts décoratifs di Parigi, è stato un pittore, ceramista, decoratore di vetri e cristalli e designer. Nel 1909 entra in contatto con Georges Rouard, per il quale inizia anche a disegnare, e nel 1914 realizza i suoi primi lavori a smalto su vetro, i quali ebbero molto successo e popolarità. Espose per diversi anni al Salon d’Automne e partecipò a tutti i maggiori eventi del suo tempo, tra cui l’Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs a Parigi del 1925 (dalla quale verrà coniato il termine “Art Dèco”), dove fu anche uno dei membri della giuria per la sezione vetro. Per tutta la vita Marcel Goupy è rimasto associato alla galleria Rouard, esponendovi le sue opere in modo permanente e diventandone direttore artistico dopo la morte di Georges Rouard nel 1929. La sua produzione comprendeva molte piante e fiori stilizzati, ma dipinse anche animali e persone (come nel caso del vaso qui descritto), tutti con la tecnica dello smalto.
