  • Signed Italian Glazed Red, White, Black Ceramic Jester And Birds, Bowl or Vessel
    Located in North Miami, FL
The whimsical and theatrical scene of hand painted Jesters, birds and designs on the front and back of this Italian hallmarked, vintage 1960s glazed ceramic or porcelain bowl is a piece of sculpture in itself. The rich color of blue red against outlines of black on white ceramic make this a conversational bowl, vessel or vase. Very Italian! It is hallmarked H.G. Italy with numbers of 101H8/B/S with a squiggly line. We have tried to do the research and it is very obscure and hard to pinpoint. We know it is a very special ceramic. It is 5.5" high to the top of the bowl not the handles. That is 7" H to the top of the handles. This is quite unusual and of the arena of a great quality. It has come from a private collection of high end vintage...

  • Clyde Burt Ceramic Vessel or Vase
    By Clyde Burt
    Located in Dallas, TX
Born in Melrose, Ohio in 1922, Clyde Burt would go on to become a major voice in American studio ceramics. He studied at Fort Wayne Art School and later at the Cape Cod School of Art before landing at the Cranbrook Academy of Art to study under Maija Grotell. While Grotell is responsible for bringing the wheel to Cranbrook, Burt made it central to his practice and his thrown works express the same endless curiosity as his teacher. Upon returning to Ohio, Burt built a home studio on his family’s farmland near the Little Auglaize River and harvested rich clay from the surrounding area. He started every day at 5:30 in the morning and would work until he knew he “had enough”. Constantly experimenting with glazes, colors and surface decoration, Burt painstakingly recorded his successes and failures in a small notebook...

Measures: 9" H x 9 3/4" W x 5 1/2" D More about Accolay pottery: Under the term Poterie d'Accolay or Accolay pottery, we group together the production of a community of potters settled in the village of Accolay, in the department of Yonne. This production center was created by four former students of Alexander Kostanda. Active from 1945-1983, their pottery is distinguished by a great technical inventiveness and an extremely abundant production. The pottery community exploited the proximity of the National 6 (can be compared to Route 66 in the USA) by investing in the service stations to make permanent exhibition places on the circuit of migration of Parisian tourists. Their exhibition buildings, inspired by the construction of the 24h circuit of Le Mans, became the obligatory stage for holiday makers in transit. The National 6 joins the 7 known as the sun route. This form of marketing continued at the entrance to Vermenton until the closure of factories in 1983. The creation of the Lyon motorway had however for several years derived the flow of tourists. The forefather Alexandre Kostanda (Dec 1921 - Nov 2007) was born in Poland of Russian parents. The family emigrated to Lorraine in France, where his mother Irene worked as a decorator in a porcelain factory. They then moved to Vallauris, where his mother worked at Louis Giraud's workshop. Alexandre joined the company as an apprentice from 1936-1938. After the war he taught pottery at the Longchamps Pottery...
