About the Item

Mid-size white Surrea vase by Wilhelm Kage, Swedish Modernism, 1940s The Surrea collection is embodied by white, Carrara glazed ceramics that feature offset forms. As the name of the series indicates, the objects are often surrealist, with several hole and tunnels intertwining. Yet, unlike most surrealist works that are often very rich and charged visually, the Surrea collection remains simple and elegant. Surrealism meets Mininalism. This particular vase has two necks with two openings that join inside. Its beautiful pear shape is complimented by a circular base that elegantly finishes and upholds the playful Double/Halved design. Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) was creative director of Gustavsberg for 30 years where he designed the great majority of the pieces. He was most known for his Argenta series (of which you can find some pieces on our storefront), but the Surrea collection is particularly loved amongst specialist for its unique yet delicate features.
