About the Item

Yugen vase by Astrid Hauton Dimensions: D 11.5 x H 35 cm Materials: woven washi paper, waxed black Valchromat. « Yugen », in Japanese, refers to an ideal of grace and subtlety. The Yugen vase has been designed to embrace this mysterious sense of beauty in its subtle curves, creating a delicate collar around floral arrangements. The presence of the Yugen vase is an invitation to seek for beauty through the most subtil details of life. The Yugen vase is part of the Kawayama collection. Made from the weaving mat that covers the tatamis, the Kawayama collection takes this iconic element of the Japanese culture to a new dimension. Traditionally flat and straight, the tatami suddenly expands in volume and curves, to become luxury homeware and contemporary furniture. Each object is made by hand, following a unique and meticulous process, which reveals the surprising structural properties and sublimates the vibrant effect of this woven material. The YUGEN vase comes in different colour combinations. It contains a glass cylinder that can be easily inserted or removed thanks to a simple device delivered with the vase. It also comes with a metal grid to make ikebana. Astrid Hauton Inspired by the Asian culture and the practice of Zen, Astrid Hauton creates high quality objects and decors, with clean lines, which invite contemplation and inspire inner calm. After graduating from ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Astrid chose to work with artisans in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, where she collaborated with NGOs for 3 years. In contact with them, she discovered local know-how and materials, and learned about oriental wisdom. Back in Paris, she created the studio in 2015 and joined the Ateliers de Paris. Following her artistic residency in Kyoto in 2017, Astrid started to study Zen philosophy and Feng-Shui principles, which enlighten her on the art of living a harmonious life. Her approach to design consists of considering “interior” and “interiority” as intrinsically linked. To combine the art of living “at home” with the art of living “in ourselves”, in order to better inhabit the world. Astrid Hauton Studio explores know-how and sublimates materials, to create collections of singular objects in limited series. The studio collaborates with prescribers, architects and brands, to jointly design soothing spaces thanks to tailor-made creations.

L Vase Designed by Virginia Frieyro for The Table Project, Spain, 2024
Located in Madrid, ES
This unique piece is part of The Table Project, a collaborative initiative developed in Spain in 2024. Originally designed by Isidro Blasco, the work has been reinterpreted by Virginia Frieyro, a visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of expanded painting, installation, and spatial intervention. Her work stems from a formal investigation of color and gesture, often connected to architecture and bodily movement. In this intervention, Frieyro transforms the surface of the vase into an immersive pictorial support, applying glazes, stains, and chromatic gestures in a vibrant palette of pinks, blues, greens, and purples. The rhythmic and gestural composition resembles an abstract cartography, where color is layered and interwoven to create a sense of depth and motion. The result is a piece that transcends functionality, existing somewhere between sculpture and three-dimensional painting. About Virginia Frieyro Virginia Frieyro explores abstraction, color, and repetition, weaving vibrant compositions across surfaces. In her ceramic works, color becomes a kind of fabric or structure, inviting an emotional experience. She seeks to connect with the most intimate and sensitive aspects of perception—believing that it is in that precise moment where art truly happens. About The Table Project The Table Project is an initiative by artist Isidro Blasco. From his studio in the Carabanchel neighborhood of Madrid, a series of projects have been developed with the goal of creating distinctive artistic objects and fostering collaboration among local artists. Since 2019, The Table Project has promoted creative encounters grounded in Spain’s rich artisanal traditions, reimagined through a contemporary lens. The initiative has become a space where multidisciplinary artists come together to produce handcrafted works within the context of contemporary art. Launched by Blasco...
