About the Item

Antique early 20th century French solid silver smokers set, comprising four ashtrays and four match pots. The pieces are of plain design, the match pots featuring flared rims with banded detailing to the lower section. The set is housed in its original silk-lined presentation box. Each piece is hallmarked French silver (950 minerva) Maker's mark G KELLER PARIS (Gustave Keller). Gustave Keller was a renowned French silversmith active in Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, celebrated for the refinement and quality of his craftsmanship. His firm, Gustave Keller Frères, became known for producing elegant silverware that combined traditional French forms with a sense of modern restraint, appealing to both aristocratic and international clients. Keller’s work was frequently praised at international exhibitions, earning medals and acclaim, and the firm supplied silver to royal households across Europe, including commissions for the French and Russian courts. His pieces, often marked by clean lines and a subtle balance between function and decoration, are today highly prized by collectors of fine French silver.
