Massive and distinctive Murano glass ashtray, it has a strong line, with sharp, decisive cuts and very accentuated edges; the colors red (obtained with gold chloride), yellow(obtained with a mixture of sulfur and cadmium), and blue (obtained with cobalt oxide) combine with harmony and precision. The ashtray was created between 1964 and 1968, in a small furnace in Murano, Italy, run by former Master Glassmakers of the Mandruzzato company who made the ashtray following the company's style and using precisely the "vetro sommerso" technique. "Sommerso" was first devised in Murano in the late 1930s, but became popular in the 1950s thanks to the skill and inventiveness of Murano's master craftsmen. The technique of "vetro sommerso” is that workmanship, starting from a blown or solid glass, allows to obtain several overlapping layers of different colors with a suggestive chromatic effect, this is possible by immersing the glass being worked in crucibles with different colors; the artifact results, thus, formed by several layers of different thickness and color such, to create incredible color effects and decorations within the object itself, the operation is not simple and is performed only by very experienced Master Glassmakers. After this step, the master glazier helping himself with special smooth tools gave the linear and geometric shape to our ashtray that once cooled passed to the delicate phase of flattening and polishing by hand with cork wheels, operations that allowed us to have the surfaces perfectly flattened, smoothed and polished exceptionally. The Mandruzzato company is a renowned glass company based in Murano and is known for its exquisite glass creations, including ashtrays. Mandruzzato ashtrays are made using traditional glassblowing techniques perfected for generations in Murano. They are characterized by their vibrant colors, bold geometric patterns, eye-catching color combinations, and high-quality workmanship. Each ashtray is a unique piece of art, showcasing the skill and creativity of glass artisans. The artisans of the small Murano furnace have mastered the color of the glass with their trademark mastery, given the ashtray a strong and elegant shape, and processed and subjected the glass to their artistic sensibility, creating a unique and fantastic object that captivates us with its unparalleled workmanship that contributes to the special and engaging play of light. The ashtray is in good condition. Measures diameter cm.15, height cm.9. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Murano Glass Italian Empty Pockets (Tray) Round "Incamiciato"

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to ensure the authenticity of our objects.
Round Murano glass empty pockets (or tray); the design is essential but well-proportioned and elegant; pleasingly aesthetic is the effect of the two colors that artisans have managed to achieve with skill and mastery. This object was made by Murano masters using the technique of "incamiciatura," which consists of superimposing, as an initial process, on the glass mass that came out of the furnace, one or more successive layers of glass of different colors; in our object to the light blue, almost transparent glass mass, only the blue color was superimposed by immersing the white form just sketched in a crucible containing the blue molten glass. Then the Master glassmaker put the whole thing back in the furnace for a few minutes and then blew into the special barrel, helping himself with pliers and working it by hand he gave the pot emptier the desired shape shaping also the central decoration, even adding a thread of blue glass all along the edge, this operation was done flat, therefore much more difficult to make the two colors blend, the object was made entirely by hand and without the use of molds or models, thus creating a unique piece, just like a work of art. The earliest records of this technique concern Benedetto Barbaria, who in 1815 made "glass blown in two layers of enamel.". The object was created between 1970 and 1973 in Murano (Venice-Italy). As can be seen from the engraving on the rim, the pocket blank is a limited edition item; it is No. 34 of 150 pieces made, which, being all handmade, show differences from one another. Unfortunately, we cannot decipher the name of the design that created it for the Murano company Effe Due...
